Lesson 3 – Look for Lines: Drawing the Unfamiliar

Lesson 2 – More Talk About Art: Collaborate to Draw Lines

Two colorful silhouette-style artworks side by side, each filled with abstract patterns and personal art goals written inside—one reads “I hope to use my sketchbook everyday,” and the other says “I want to use watercolor more.

Students will combine everything they have learned about how artists use their materials in order to create their first self-portrait.

Lesson 7 – Negative Space: Seeing Beyond Objects

A pencil drawing features kitchen utensils—scissors, a strainer spoon, and a circular object—outlined in white against a checkerboard background shaded in various tones of gray.

Lesson 5 – Five-Value Chart: Replicate Value

In this lesson, we introduce a new art idea that students discover through experimenting with their art materials.

Lesson 4 – Making Opposite Marks to Music: Quick-Write

This unit is about how artists get ideas as an important part of an artistic process.

Lesson 3 – Goal Setting: Opening Up to New Ideas

In this lesson, students will do a brainstorming exercise on their personal goals as an artist.

Lesson 2 – Let’s Talk! Idea Bank & Impact of Visual Components
